Library management

More often than not there is diversity in process environments. There are many different approaches to process operation and/or control. These differences have come about due to historical reasons, rules and regulations, geographical situation, client specific requirements and so on. Therefore there are plenty of reasons for customers to impose their own requirements for their process control and the associated library.

When developing your own library one must – just like Siemens does – test this code. The code must also be tested when version upgrades take place. Generally speaking organizations that have more than one physical location or site have their own library standards. However, as a result of specific requirements from a local establishment, there is always the chance of uncontrolled growth of libraries. This makes for a process that is much harder to manage and requires a solution which can be supplied by one party. CoNet, with their wealth of experience and facilities, is the party right for the job.

Start up

CoNet starts out from the premise that building a client specific library needs to be organized and designed as a project. This entails that a technical design will be produced based on an FDS. This design will be submitted to the principal for approval.
After approval, a model project in which all of the specific library elements have been included will be designed. This model project will be completed by means of a Factory Acceptance Test (FAT). The whole will then be assigned to a dedicated virtual machine. This machine will be used to implement modifications, version upgrades and maintenance. The prior procedure will be repeated depending on a modification’s magnitude (think of an entirely new version for instance).

Management and maintenance

We set up a dedicated portal for every principal to which the necessary functions are assigned. This portal will enable the principal to perform management and maintenance, with assistance from CoNet. Included are managing of licenses, versions and modifications as well as support.
When this is required, secondary portals may be set up for different locations and/or sites.

Process Safety

CoNet has completed several projects based on the starting points and definitions of Integrated Process Safety.
In these cases CoNet’s role is often to offer advice and guidance, especially advice pertaining to lay-out and components. Performing Risk Assessments & Evaluations (the so-called RI&E's) is part of this service package.

Process Safety presents a great deal of advantages. A very tangible one is the uniform interface that operators are offered. It is identical to the interface used for day to day operations (integrated in WinCC/PCS7 OS).

CoNet makes use of the Siemens Safety Matrix (Cause and Effect Diagram). The Safety Matrix, paired with Siemens Safety Engineering, generates a large part of all safety blocks thus significantly reducing the number of errors.

Machine guideline

The importance of a Machine Guideline is often underestimated. In fact Machines have to comply with the latest Machine Guideline.

If requested, CoNet can conduct Risk Assessments & Evaluations (RI&E's) on your machines. The results of such an inspection are translated into recommendations for the modification of your machine and (possibly) control thereof.
