It is no secret that CoNet has the ambition to expand her territory internationally. So, Cargill's request to help replace an aging DOS2000 system at her location in Berlin, Germany was enthusiastically welcomed!
The project went beyond simply replacing the DOS2000 system. PCS7 also had to be deployed to replace the existing InTouch visualization software and the S7 hardware. Furthermore, the job consisted of upgrading 4 dosing silo systems which had to meet the ATEX specs. And MES integration was another obvious request. Time fot the CoNet team to get their hands (and brains) dirty!
Technically and in terms of hardware this was a mayor project. Simatic PCS 7 and Batch was used to accommodate future adjustments and extensions. The Profibus master and four slaves were replaced while the existing Profibus network could persist. Integration with MES was realized through Simatic Batch API and Siwarex modules replacing the outdated DOS2000 weighing systems. These overhauls enabled easier future updates and expansion. Moreover, the implemented system works in accordance with the international Cargill standard. Finally, also safety was addressed; the realized system now complies with the ATEX specifications and requirements.
