We hosted our first work experience for college student Fin Hunt.  Fin wanted to see what industrial software engineering was all about. We set fin up on our CoNet systems with an engineering station to program our very own lemonade factory.

Fin got stuck in and managed to get quite far over the week with only a few sticky points & we managed to get through every challenge.

On Wednesday, Fin and Ian Pickett ( UK Lead) attended the Siemens Transform conference in Manchester to give Finn some idea of the products and services Siemens offered. We attended the keynote speech, Fin chose some presentations he thought interesting like Frugal bottle – a wine bottle made from recycled paper. We also experienced what it was like being a Pringle working its way through the Pringle factory digital twin using a VR headset.

Fin was surprised by the wide range of products Siemens supply.

All in all Fin enjoyed himself and got an insight into PLC programming, in his own words:

“Over the week I was at CoNet, I was given a project to code, this was a lemonade factory within a virtual PLC and HMI. At times it was challenging, but I enjoyed it when the code finally worked. On Wednesday I went to Manchester to Siemens Transform conference where many different technologies / products were shown, such as the frugal bottles and incorporation with AI.

Thanks to CoNet and especially Ian for taking care of me and giving me an insight for a possible future career.”

Thanks also to Maud and Jerry for helping set up the training!
