In the province of Flevoland, an irritating and potentially hazardous issue arose as the remotely operated Noordersluis in Lelystad occasionally failed to close properly for unexplained reasons.
A Potentially Dangerous Malfunctioning Bridge
Watch the video below to witness the potential danger caused by this situation. On certain occasions, the bridge and road closures would either not close or, worse yet, remain open. CoNet was called upon to resolve this problem, adopting an approach that involved inspecting the control software to identify the underlying cause.
The Solution
Upon investigation, it was discovered that the embedded emergency procedure had been improperly written. While the correct procedure was activated upon receiving an emergency stop signal, the system failed to reset from the last step, instead reverting to the beginning.
CoNet successfully rectified this issue by incorporating an additional piece of code into the existing software, ensuring that the bridge now functions reliably, safely, and as intended.
