CoNet has once again been granted the preventive service contract for Koudwals 22 (KW22) by Tata Steel. Since 2008, KW22 has been operating with Siemens’ latest automation technology, and CoNet had previously secured the maintenance contract for this cutting-edge installation. Due to a history of mutual trust and positive experiences, the service contract has now been extended until the end of 2012. In close collaboration with Tata Steel, work procedures have been established to ensure the verification of preventive maintenance, with additional safety measures and installation parts incorporated into the contract.
Work Procedures and Safety Measures Ensured
The scope of preventive maintenance for KW22 encompasses a combination of various Siemens automation components. These include SIMATIC PCS7, TDC, PLC S7, PLC Safety, HMI (PCS7 OS and Operator Panels), Drives (Sinamics and Simotion), and industrial Interfaces (Profibus DP and ProfiNet).
Speed and Precision in Measurement Controls
The use of TDC is particularly crucial for achieving fast controls, especially in measuring thickness. It significantly improves cycle times and ensures reliable performance. Safety measures have been implemented through the application of a Safety PLC, providing controlled shutdown in the event of unauthorized access.
Notably, Koudwals 22 boasts four main drives, each with a capacity of 10MW, making them water-cooled and medium voltage drives.
