Malfunctioning bridge – CoNet to the rescue
The province of Flevoland suffered an annoying and potentially even dangerous problem. By an inexplicable reason the remotely operated Noordersluis in Lelystad sometimes failed to close correctly.
In the video below you can see what the potentially dangerous situation this causes. The bridge and road closures occasionally do not close or – even worse – remain open. CoNet was asked to solve the problem. Our approach consisted of checking the control software and finding the cause. It was discovered that the built-in emergency procedure was not written correctly. When an emergency stop signal was given, the correct procedure was called and activated. However, after the emergency procedure the system was not reset from the last step, but from the beginning.
CoNet solved this by adding an extra piece of code in the existing software; the bridge function properly and safely again.
